Get a Washington ID without a permanent address

Use this checklist to prepare for a licensing office visit, even if you are missing documents.

Had a Washington ID or license before? Visit a driver licensing office and ask staff to look up your record.
Never had one or missing documents? Bring any identity records you have and ask a supervisor about an ID review. If you are in school or foster care, ask your school’s homeless education liaison or caseworker for help.
Plan for delivery. Ask a shelter or community organization if you can use its mailing address. Ask the licensing office about picking up your card there.
Ask about the fee. DOL lists a one-time no-cost ID and reduced-fee options for people experiencing homelessness. Ask which option applies and whether you need a verification letter.
